At a conference in November, the UK pledged £720m ($1.1 billion) towards the Green Climate Fund which was established at the Copenhagen climate summit in 2009 with the aim of channeling money to help developing countries implement climate policies. Many other countries at the conference pledged money towards the fund and on 11th December the fund surpassed it’s target of $10bn. This target was lowered from $15bn in September last year.
The highest pledgers include: US $3bn; Japan $1.5bn; UK $1.1bn; Germany and France $1bn.
